Zoom Whitening: A Brighter Smile
In Under 90 Minutes.
Picasso Dental offers genuine Philips Zoom! WhiteSpeed in-office laser whitening in Vietnam, full mouth, completed in a single 60–90 minute visit. Results commonly last 12–24 months with reasonable maintenance. The 25% hydrogen peroxide gel is activated by the original Philips Zoom! lamp, with professional gum protection and a take-home maintenance kit available.
What is Zoom Whitening?
Zoom! WhiteSpeed is a light-activated whitening system from Philips that uses a 25% hydrogen peroxide gel activated by a specialised LED light. The reaction breaks down staining within the enamel matrix. A single in-office session of three or four 15-minute cycles produces a noticeable, lasting result.
Why Picasso for Zoom
Genuine Philips Zoom! System
Original Philips Zoom! gel and the WhiteSpeed LED lamp, the same system used in cosmetic clinics in Sydney, Singapore and Los Angeles. We do not substitute generic peroxide gel into a Zoom protocol.
Beyond and Pola Office at the Same Price
If your dentist recommends a different lamp based on your sensitivity profile or starting shade, Beyond (USA) and Pola Office (Australia) are available at the same per-jaw price as Zoom. Three internationally recognised systems, one transparent price, see our cosmetic cost guide.
Professional Gum Protection
A cheek and lip retractor is fitted, and a light-cured resin barrier is painted along your gumline before any gel is placed. This is the step home-kits cannot replicate, and it is the main reason in-office whitening is gentler on soft tissue than over-the-counter products.
Scaling and Polishing First
A hygiene clean is completed before the Zoom session. Surface stains often disappear with cleaning alone, and the bleaching gel works most effectively on a clean enamel surface, you get a better result for the same chair time.
Take-Home Maintenance Kit
An optional at-home Zoom! kit (custom trays plus 6 to 10% gel) is available, see our cosmetic cost guide. Most patients top up every 6 to 12 months at home to keep their result stable for years rather than booking another in-office session.
Honest About Limits
If your discoloration is internal, on a single tooth, or caused by tetracycline, we will say bleaching is unlikely to satisfy you and recommend a veneer or internal bleaching instead. We are not interested in selling you a session that will not deliver.
Zoom vs Other Whitening Systems at Picasso
Three in-office laser systems and two at-home options. All three lamps are priced the same per jaw, the choice is clinical, not commercial. Per-system pricing is published on our cost guide.

Zoom In-Office (WhiteSpeed)
Time to result: 60 to 90 minute single visit.
Concentration: 25% hydrogen peroxide.
Cost: Per-jaw and full-mouth pricing on our cost guide.
Sensitivity risk: Higher, transient cold sensitivity for 24 to 48 hours in around a third of patients.
Best for: Patients who want a fast, in-clinic result, dental tourists on a short trip, anyone preparing for a wedding, photoshoot or veneer case.
Zoom At-Home Kit
Time to result: 2 to 4 weeks of nightly use.
Concentration: 6 to 10% peroxide gel in custom trays.
Cost: Kit pricing (trays + gel) on our cost guide.
Sensitivity risk: Lower, the slower protocol is gentler on enamel and gums.

Who Is, and Isn't, a Good Candidate for Zoom?
Zoom is the simplest cosmetic procedure we offer, but it is not the right answer for every kind of discoloration.
You're a Strong Candidate If
You have healthy enamel with no untreated cavities or active gum disease.
Your discoloration is from coffee, tea, red wine, smoking or normal age-related yellowing.
You want a fast, in-clinic result, often before a wedding, photoshoot, holiday or veneer case.
You are willing to avoid heavily staining foods and drinks for 48 hours after treatment.
You have realistic expectations, Zoom lightens existing teeth; it does not produce identical Hollywood shades on every patient.
Zoom May Not Be Right If
You have severe pre-existing tooth sensitivity, a gentler at-home protocol or a sensitivity-friendly system may suit you better.
You are pregnant or breastfeeding, we postpone elective whitening.
You are under 16, the pulp is larger and more sensitive in young teeth.
You have untreated decay or active gum disease, both are treated first.
Your visible smile is already restored with crowns, veneers or large composite fillings, bleaching only changes natural enamel.
You have severe tetracycline staining, the response is poor and a veneer is usually the better tool.
How a Zoom Session Works
Five steps in a single 60–90 minute visit.
Scaling and Polishing
A hygiene clean removes surface staining first. Bleaching works best on a clean enamel surface.
Lip Retractor + Gum Protection
A cheek and lip retractor is fitted, and a light-cured resin barrier is painted along the gumline to seal the soft tissue.
25% Peroxide Gel Applied
The Philips Zoom! 25% hydrogen peroxide gel is applied evenly across the front surfaces of your teeth in the smile zone.
3–4 × 15-Minute Light Cycles
The Zoom! WhiteSpeed LED lamp is positioned and activated in three or four 15-minute cycles. The gel is refreshed between cycles.
Final Polish + Aftercare
Barrier and retractor are removed, teeth are polished, shade is checked, and aftercare instructions are provided.
Aftercare: The First 48 Hours Matter Most
The enamel pores are open immediately after whitening and pick up colour readily. A short window of careful eating protects months of result.
Avoid Staining Foods for 48 Hours
No coffee, tea, red wine, curry, beetroot, soy sauce, berries or tobacco for 48 hours after the session. Stick to water, milk, plain rice, white meats, white pasta and white sauces. After 48 hours your normal diet resumes.
Manage Sensitivity
Around a third of patients experience transient cold sensitivity for 24–48 hours. A desensitising toothpaste (Sensodyne or similar) used twice daily handles this comfortably. Avoid very cold drinks for the first day.
Hold Shade Decisions for Two Weeks
If you are planning veneers or a crown, do not finalise the shade for two weeks after whitening. The teeth rebound slightly as they rehydrate, the two-week shade is the stable shade your restoration should be matched to.
Take-Home Maintenance
A 6-month touch-up using a take-home Zoom! kit (or a single gel syringe in your existing trays) keeps the result stable for years rather than letting it slowly fade.
Risks & Honest Tradeoffs
Zoom is one of the safest cosmetic procedures we offer. It is not entirely free of side effects, and it does have hard limits worth knowing before you book.
Transient Sensitivity (24–48 Hours)
The most common side effect. Mild cold sensitivity for one to two days, reported by roughly a third of patients. Managed with desensitising toothpaste and avoidance of very cold drinks. It resolves on its own.
Gum Irritation (Rare)
Brief gum irritation can occur if the resin barrier seal fails and gel contacts soft tissue. We check the barrier carefully before activation, and any contact is irrigated and addressed in the chair. Persistent irritation is unusual.
Crowns, Veneers and Fillings Don't Change
Zoom only lightens natural enamel. Existing crowns, veneers and composite fillings stay the same shade. If you have visible restorations, your natural teeth will brighten while the restorations stay where they are, sometimes the answer is to whiten first, then replace the now-dark restoration.
Sequence Whitening Before Restorations
If you are planning veneers, a crown or a composite filling in your smile zone, complete Zoom first and wait two weeks. The new restoration is then matched to your final brighter shade, not your old shade.
Tetracycline Staining Responds Poorly
Tetracycline bands the dentine internally and rarely lightens convincingly with bleaching. We will say so honestly at consultation, a veneer is usually the right tool for tetracycline staining.
Result is Not Permanent
Zoom is maintenance, not a tattoo. Results last 12–24 months with reasonable habits, longer with take-home top-ups, shorter with heavy coffee, red wine, smoking or curry. A small annual top-up costs less than redoing the whole protocol.

Frequently Asked Questions
How white will my teeth get with Zoom?
Most patients lighten by four to eight shades on the standard Vita scale in a single session. The exact result depends on your starting shade, the cause of staining and how porous your enamel is. Coffee, tea, wine and tobacco staining responds best. We record your starting shade so you can see the change clearly.
Does Zoom whitening hurt?
Zoom is not painful during the session. Around 30–40% of patients experience transient cold sensitivity for 24–48 hours afterwards. This is managed with desensitising toothpaste and resolves on its own. Patients with pre-existing sensitivity may prefer the gentler at-home Zoom kit.
How long does Zoom whitening last?
Results from a single Zoom! in-office session typically last 12–24 months with reasonable maintenance, meaning regular cleaning and avoiding heavy staining foods and drinks. A take-home Zoom! kit or a single gel syringe top-up at 6–12 months keeps the result stable for years.
Can I do Zoom if I have crowns or veneers?
You can have the procedure, but Zoom only lightens natural enamel. Crowns, veneers and composite fillings will not change shade. If you have visible restorations in your smile zone, the bleaching may produce uneven results, your natural teeth will brighten while the porcelain stays the same. We discuss this before treating.
What is the difference between Zoom in-office and Zoom at-home?
In-office Zoom uses a 25% hydrogen peroxide gel activated by the WhiteSpeed LED lamp, completed in a single 60 to 90 minute visit. The at-home Zoom kit uses 6 to 10% peroxide in custom trays worn nightly for 2 to 4 weeks. Per-service pricing for both is on our cosmetic cost guide. In-office is faster and stronger; at-home is gentler and lower-cost.
Can I do Zoom while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Elective whitening is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The peroxide is not proven harmful but the procedure is cosmetic and easily postponed. We will reschedule for after you finish breastfeeding.
Will Zoom damage my enamel?
Professional Zoom whitening using clinical peroxide concentrations does not structurally damage enamel when applied as directed by a dentist. The gum barrier and the WhiteSpeed protocol are designed to keep the gel where it should be. Over-the-counter products and unsupervised treatments carry higher risk.
Will tetracycline-stained teeth respond to Zoom?
Tetracycline staining is internal and bands the dentine, not the enamel surface. Zoom can lighten it slightly but rarely produces a satisfying result. For tetracycline staining, porcelain veneers are usually the better tool, we will say so honestly at consultation rather than booking treatment that will disappoint.
Can I do Zoom right before getting veneers?
Yes, and we recommend sequencing it that way. Veneer porcelain does not change colour, so you want your natural teeth at their final brighter shade before the veneers are matched. We complete Zoom first, wait two weeks for the shade to stabilise, then take the shade for your veneers.
What should I avoid eating after Zoom whitening?
For the first 48 hours, avoid coffee, tea, red wine, curry, beetroot, soy sauce, berries and tobacco. The enamel pores are open immediately after whitening and pick up colour readily. Stick to water, milk, plain rice, white meats, white pasta and white sauces. After 48 hours your normal diet resumes, with sensible moderation on heavy stainers.
