What It Is

What is an Implant Bridge?

An implant bridge replaces 3 or 4 adjacent missing teeth with two titanium fixtures supporting a connected porcelain bridge. Instead of placing one implant per missing tooth, the rear and front of the gap each carry one implant, and the false teeth in between (pontics) are suspended from them. The result is fixed and permanent like individual implants, but with less surgery, lower cost, and the same long-term bone preservation.

Why Picasso

Why Picasso for Implant Bridges

Three claims that should be true of any implant clinic you trust. Here is exactly how we deliver each one.

01

Genuine brand implants, serial-verified.

Nobel Biocare Straumann Osstem Neodent

Every fixture leaves Picasso with the manufacturer's original warranty and a serial number you can verify with the maker. No grey-market stock, no off-brand substitutions, no surprises a year later when your home dentist services the bridge.

02

CBCT-guided surgery, planned in 3D before the first incision.

Cone Beam CT Digital surgical plan iTero impressions

Cone Beam CT imaging maps your jawbone in 3D before any surgery. Implant positions, angles and depths are decided digitally, particularly important for bridge cases where the two implants need to share the load evenly across the connected pontics.

03

Healthy adjacent teeth stay untouched.

No grinding Bone preserved 25+ year fixtures

A traditional tooth-supported bridge grinds down the two healthy teeth either side of the gap as anchors. An implant bridge anchors into bone instead. Every other tooth in your mouth stays exactly as it is, and the bone underneath the bridge is preserved by the implants.

Candidacy

Who Is, and Isn't, a Good Candidate?

Implant bridges suit most adults missing 3 or 4 adjacent teeth. They are not the right answer for everyone. Here's the honest version, decided after your CBCT scan and medical history review.

You're a strong candidate if

  • You're an adult (~18+) in generally good health with 3 or 4 adjacent missing or failing teeth.
  • Your jawbone is adequate at the planned implant positions, or you accept grafting if needed.
  • Your gums are healthy, or any active gum disease has been treated first.
  • If diabetic, your HbA1c is well-controlled (ideally below 7%).
  • You don't smoke, or are willing to stop at least 2 weeks before surgery and 8 weeks afterward.
  • You can attend basic 6-month recall visits, locally or with us.

An implant bridge may not be right if

  • You have uncontrolled diabetes (significantly higher failure and infection risk).
  • You have active, untreated periodontal disease, must be resolved first.
  • You've recently received IV bisphosphonate therapy (typically for cancer treatment).
  • You're a heavy smoker unwilling to stop or significantly cut down, failure rates roughly double.
  • The gap span is too long (5+ teeth), where a different solution applies.
  • You're pregnant, we postpone elective implant surgery until after delivery.

If any of these apply, we'll tell you, and recommend individual implants, a traditional bridge, or treatment elsewhere if that's the right answer for you.

The Comparison

Implant Bridge vs the Alternatives

Three options exist for replacing 3 or 4 adjacent missing teeth. Here's the honest comparison, plus what happens when bone has to be rebuilt first.

OptionHealthy Teeth Affected?Bone PreservationLifespan
Implant Bridge (2 implants)NoneYes25+ years (fixtures)
Individual Implants (per tooth)NoneYes (best)25+ years (fixtures)
Traditional Bridge (tooth-supported)2 (ground down)No10 to 15 years
Removable Partial Denture2 (clasps)No5 to 7 years

Will you need bone grafting?

If teeth have been missing for years, bone shrinkage in the area may require grafting before implant placement. Your CBCT scan tells us definitively on day one. GBR bone grafting (Bio-Oss + Bio-Gide) adds 4 to 6 weeks; a sinus lift in the upper back jaw can add 6 months. We won't recommend grafting unless your anatomy requires it.

Why we usually recommend an implant bridge

For most adults with 3 or 4 adjacent missing teeth, the implant bridge is the right answer: bone preserved, healthy teeth untouched, comparable lifespan to individual implants at significantly lower cost. We will tell you honestly when individual implants or a traditional bridge fit your case better.

Aftercare

Caring for Your Implant Bridge

An implant bridge is not a one-time treatment. With basic maintenance, modern implants routinely last 25+ years. Here's the schedule that keeps yours that way, with particular attention to the connected pontics underneath.

DAY 1

Every Day · For Life

Brush, Floss-Threader, Repeat

Twice-daily soft brushing. Floss threaders, super floss or a water flosser to clean under the suspended pontics, this is the part most patients miss and where peri-implantitis starts. Interdental brushes around each implant.

6 MO

Every 6 Months

Bridge Hygiene Recall

Professional cleaning of the bridge, soft-tissue check around each implant, visual inspection. Slightly longer than a natural-tooth recall because there are more surfaces and the underside of the bridge needs attention. Local or with us.

YR 1

At 12 Months

X-Ray Stability Check

One X-ray to confirm bone levels are stable around each implant. Standard practice for implant patients worldwide. We send the file; your local dentist can take it.

YR 10+

Years 12 to 15

Bridge Refresh (Maybe)

The implant fixtures themselves are permanent. The porcelain bridge on top may eventually show wear and can be replaced without disturbing the implants below.

What to avoid

Smoking is the single biggest threat to implant longevity. Untreated peri-implantitis is the second, and bridges are particularly vulnerable because debris collects under the connected pontics. Hard objects (ice, pen caps, fingernails) are unkind to bridges and natural teeth alike.

If you travel home mid-treatment

You leave with complete clinical records, X-rays, implant serial numbers and surgical notes. Your home dentist can perform recalls or address concerns, and we respond to questions over WhatsApp at any time.

Patient Reviews

Multi-Implant Patients in Their Own Words

"

My visit to Picasso dental in Hanoi was amazing. I travelled from Sydney to Hanoi and began a course of treatment over two separate visits across a month. I had four crowns fitted, one large filling and the removal of an old and very large amalgam filling. I also had the first stage in preparation for three implants. The attention to detail that both my dentist and orthodontist demonstrated was so impressive.

Having been working out in Vietnam for the last few years I have got to know them very well. I've had 3 implants done here, multiple check ups and cleaning. Professional and friendly. The results I have had have been of top quality, the results had impressed my UK dentist.

From the day I started texting them on WhatsApp from Australia, I knew I had made the right choice getting dental implants. As soon as I arrived Vietnam I was greeted with a warm text. I can't give enough praise for Dr Evan and his wonderful nurses. My temporary implants look great and you would think they're the real ones, but I'm coming back in 6 months to get the Swiss Neodent Zirconium implants.

Risks & Success Rates

Risks & Success Rates: Honestly

No surgery is risk-free. Here's what the dental implant literature reports for implant bridges, what can go wrong, and how Picasso minimises every avoidable risk.

Documented Success Rate

Long-term clinical literature consistently reports implant survival in the 95 to 98% range over 10 years for healthy patients placed by experienced clinicians, confirmed by the systematic review of Moraschini et al. (2015) covering more than 14,000 implants across 23 studies. Implant-supported bridges show comparable survival.

What Can Go Wrong

Failure to integrate at one of the implants (rare). Peri-implantitis (gum disease around an implant). Bridge fracture or chip (the bridge is replaceable without disturbing the implants). Cement-retained bridge loosening (re-cementable).

How We Minimise Risk

CBCT 3D imaging before every implant. Autoclave sterilisation. Medical history screening (uncontrolled diabetes, smoking, bisphosphonate use are flagged). Genuine brand fixtures only. Surgical planning and load-distribution check across the connected pontics before any incision.

If Something Goes Wrong

If an implant fails to integrate within 6 months of placement, we re-place it at no additional cost. If a bridge fractures within the warranty period, we replace it. We don't invoice you to fix our own work.

Bridge Hygiene Matters

Connected pontics (false teeth suspended between implants) collect debris underneath. Daily cleaning with floss threaders or a water flosser is essential, peri-implantitis around bridges almost always traces back to inadequate hygiene under the pontic.

Smoking & Implants

Smoking roughly doubles implant failure risk and significantly increases peri-implantitis. We require patients to disclose smoking status honestly, it doesn't disqualify you, but it changes our protocol and aftercare advice.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an implant bridge cost in Vietnam?

Implant bridge pricing is tiered by bridge size (3-unit, 4-unit, 5-unit), implant count (2 or 3 implants), and brand (Osstem, Neodent, Nobel Biocare, Straumann). Per-configuration pricing is published on our implant cost guide. Prices include the fixtures, abutments and the porcelain bridge.

Do I need an implant for every missing tooth?

No. Two implants can support a bridge of 3 or 4 connected crowns. This costs less and involves less surgery than placing an implant at every position. Individual implants per tooth are recommended only when the bridge span would be too long or hygiene access is critical.

How long does an implant bridge last?

The implant fixtures themselves routinely last 25 years or more, with documented 10-year survival in the 95 to 98 percent range. The porcelain bridge on top typically lasts 12 to 15 years before considering replacement. The bridge can be replaced without disturbing the underlying implants.

How long does the whole process take?

For a standard implant bridge: implant placement on day one, then 3 to 4 months of osseointegration, then 2 to 3 visits over 2 to 3 weeks for the final bridge. Total: roughly 4 to 6 months from first surgery to final bridge.

Will I be missing teeth during the healing period?

Not visibly. If the missing teeth are in the smile zone, we provide a temporary bridge so you are never seen with a gap. For back teeth where it is not visible, a temporary is optional.

Is an implant bridge better than a traditional bridge?

Yes, in most cases. A traditional bridge requires grinding down healthy adjacent teeth as anchors. An implant bridge anchors into the jawbone instead, leaving every other tooth untouched and preserving bone in the area.

What if I have 4 missing teeth in a row?

Two implants can support a 4-unit bridge in many cases, the rear and front of the gap each carry one implant, with two false teeth suspended between them. For longer spans (5+ teeth), we typically recommend 3 implants for proper load distribution.

Will I need bone grafting?

Possibly. If teeth have been missing for years, bone shrinkage in the area may require grafting before implant placement. The CBCT scan tells us definitively on day one. GBR bone grafting (Bio-Oss) adds 4 to 6 weeks; a sinus lift in the upper back jaw can add 6 months.

Can I get my implant bridge in one trip?

Most international patients split treatment across two trips: surgery and a temporary bridge on trip one, then the final bridge on trip two after osseointegration. Patients with longer availability complete both phases in a single extended stay in Vietnam.

Is the warranty international?

Yes. Every implant brand we offer issues a manufacturer warranty recognised globally. We provide your implant serial numbers and full clinical records so any dentist anywhere can service the bridge or implants if needed.

Which brand is best for an implant bridge?

Osstem is well-suited to standard cases at the best price. Nobel Biocare and Straumann are recommended for the aesthetic zone, longer-span bridges, or cases where premium long-term documentation matters. We recommend after seeing your CBCT scan.

Does the surgery hurt?

The surgery is performed under local anaesthetic, you feel pressure, not pain. Post-operative experience is comparable to a tooth extraction: 2 to 3 days of mild swelling, managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Sedation is available for anxious patients or longer surgical sessions.
