What It Does
What the iTero Scanner Does
Invisalign Treatment Planning
iTero is the native scanner for Invisalign. Scans are sent directly to Align Technology, who generate your ClinCheck treatment simulation within 48–72 hours. You see a 3D animation of your projected tooth movement before you commit to treatment.
Crown and Bridge Preparation
Digital impressions replace traditional putty for crown, bridge, inlay and onlay preparation cases. The scan is sent to the dental laboratory, eliminating the dimensional changes that can occur when putty trays cool and distort. Better-fitting restorations, fewer adjustments at fit.
Implant Planning
Combined with a CBCT scan, iTero digital scans allow the clinician to plan implant position in 3D before surgery. The scan data is overlaid on the CT to produce a surgical guide, placing the implant to within sub-millimetre accuracy of the planned position.
Outcome Simulation (Invisalign)
iTero's Outcome Simulator shows you a before/after comparison of your expected result before any aligner is manufactured. Patients find this useful for deciding between Invisalign and veneers, or for understanding whether a short-course Lite case covers their full treatment need.
Monitoring Tooth Movement
For ongoing Invisalign cases, progress scans are compared against the original iTero scan using the Progress Assessment tool. The clinician can see exactly which teeth are tracking to plan and which may need a refinement set.
No Gag Reflex Triggering
Traditional putty impressions are the most common cause of patient anxiety in routine dentistry. The iTero wand is a small camera-tipped probe that takes 2–3 minutes to scan a full arch. Patients with strong gag reflexes or dental anxiety find it significantly more comfortable than putty.
