What is General Dentistry?

General dentistry is the everyday foundation of dental care: examinations, professional cleaning, fillings, root canals, simple extractions, gum disease treatment, emergency care, and the diagnosis of any concern that may need a specialist. It is the discipline that keeps teeth healthy between cosmetic, orthodontic and surgical visits, and the first stop for any new pain or concern.

Why Picasso for Everyday Care

Senior General Dentists on Every Case

Routine care at Picasso is led by Dr. Thao Tran and Dr. Nhung Duong, our senior general dentists, supported by Dr. Emily Nguyen's group-wide clinical standards. No rotation through trainees.

Composite Fillings Only

We do not place new amalgam fillings. Every filling at Picasso is tooth-coloured composite, shade-matched and bonded. We also offer IAOMT-protocol safe amalgam removal for patients replacing old silver fillings.

Same-Day Emergency Slots

Tooth pain, broken teeth, abscesses, lost crowns, post-extraction concerns: we keep emergency slots open every day at every branch. International patients can reach us over WhatsApp.

Hospital-Grade Sterilisation

Autoclave sterilisation, single-use disposables where appropriate, and full barrier protection. Two of our branches operate inside accredited hospitals (Vinmec Da Nang, Link General Da Lat).

CBCT and Digital X-Ray on Site

Diagnostic imaging is part of routine care, not an add-on. Panoramic, cephalometric and CBCT 3D imaging available at every branch. We do not refer you elsewhere for the X-ray then ask you to come back.

Specialist Referral Inside the Group

Cases that need a specialist (implants, complex orthodontics, cosmetic veneers, oral surgery) are referred inside the Picasso group. No outsourcing, no lost case files, your records follow you.

Common Questions

What is general dentistry?

General dentistry is the everyday foundation of dental care: examinations, professional cleaning, fillings, root canals, extractions, gum disease treatment, emergency care, and the diagnosis of any concern that may need a specialist. At Picasso Dental, general dentistry is led by Dr. Thao Tran and Dr. Nhung Duong, with cases referred to our specialists when needed.

How often should I see a dentist?

For most adults, once every 6 months for a checkup and professional cleaning. Patients with active gum disease, a history of cavities or implants may be recalled every 4 months. Children are seen from age one, then every 6 months.

How much does a basic checkup cost at Picasso?

A general examination and consultation is. Children's examination is free. Scaling and polishing ranges for mild tartar to for heavy tartar. Panoramic X-ray (OPG) is. CBCT 3D imaging is.

Do you offer emergency dental treatment?

Yes. Same-day emergency appointments are available across all six Picasso Dental branches for tooth pain, broken teeth, abscesses, lost crowns and post-extraction complications. International patients can reach us over WhatsApp at any time. See our emergency dentistry page.

Do you treat international patients for general dentistry?

Yes. Many international patients combine a routine checkup, cleaning and any needed fillings or extractions into a single visit when in Vietnam. We also handle ongoing care for expatriates living in Hanoi, Da Nang, HCMC and Da Lat. English-speaking dentists at every branch.

Are amalgam (silver) fillings still used?

No. Picasso Dental places only composite (tooth-coloured) fillings. We also offer safe amalgam removal using IAOMT-protocol isolation for patients who want their existing amalgam fillings replaced. This is a addition to the standard filling cost.

What if I have a fear of the dentist?

Tell us before your appointment. We allocate longer first-visit times, explain every step before starting, and offer oral or IV sedation at our hospital-partner branches (Vinmec Da Nang and Link General Da Lat) for anxious patients. There is no shame in asking.

How do I know if I need a filling vs a crown vs a root canal?

After examination and X-ray, we explain the diagnosis. A small to moderate cavity is filled (composite). A large cavity that compromises the cusp is best restored with an inlay, onlay or crown. Decay or infection that has reached the pulp requires a root canal followed by a crown. We do not over-treat.

Who leads general dentistry at Picasso?

General dentistry at Picasso is led by Dr. Thao Tran and Dr. Nhung Duong. Standards are set group-wide by Dr. Emily Nguyen, our founding clinical director. Specialist cases are referred to Dr. Hung Le (implants), Dr. Rosie Nguyen (cosmetic), or Dr. Thuan Phung and Dr. Toan Le (orthodontics).

Do you accept walk-ins?

For genuine emergencies, yes. For routine care, please book in advance: most branches run a full schedule and walk-in slots are limited. WhatsApp booking is available for international patients.
