Why Are Implants Cheaper in Vietnam?

The honest answer. Lower cost does not mean lower quality, here is why the price difference exists.

Lower Labour Costs

Vietnamese dental specialists earn substantially less than Australian, UK or US counterparts despite identical training and licensure pathways. This is the single biggest cost difference.

Lower Clinic Overheads

Real estate, utilities, support staff, insurance, all dramatically cheaper in Vietnam. A clinic that costs 40,000 USD/month to operate in Sydney costs 8,000 to 12,000 USD/month equivalent in Da Nang or Hanoi.

Currency Arbitrage

VND/USD exchange rates favour international patients. The same nominal amount of work translates to dramatically different prices in different currencies, even when the underlying cost-to-clinic is similar.

Same Implant Hardware

Picasso uses identical Nobel Biocare, Straumann, Osstem and Neodent fixtures used in clinics in Sydney, Paris and New York. Same boxes, same serial numbers, same warranties. The implant fixture itself does not get cheaper, only the labour around it.

Lower Regulatory Burden

The administrative cost of running a dental practice (record-keeping, compliance, malpractice insurance) is significantly lower in Vietnam. We invest these savings into clinical equipment and training, not into pocketed margin.

What This Does NOT Mean

It does NOT mean lower-grade materials, shortcut surgery, or unsafe protocols. We use the same brand-name fixtures, the same CBCT planning, the same autoclave sterilisation, and the same surgical protocols documented in international literature.

What's Included in the Price

The full breakdown. No surprise add-ons, no upselling at the chair, no separate "consultation fee" or "X-ray fee" billed at the end.

Always Included Free

Initial consultation. CBCT 3D scan (worth 2,500,000 VND elsewhere). Treatment planning. Written quote. Implant serial number documentation. Case file at handover.

Included in the Implant Combo Price

Titanium fixture (the implant itself). Abutment (the connector). Final porcelain or zirconia crown. Surgical placement. Suture removal. Standard post-op review.

Quoted Separately When Indicated

Tooth extraction (1,200,000 VND each). GBR bone graft (4,000,000 VND). Sinus lift, closed (8,000,000 VND) or open (15,000,000 VND). Block graft (12,000,000 VND). Sedation (5,000,000 to 12,000,000 VND).

Optional Upgrades

Premium brand upgrade (Nobel Biocare or Straumann). Immediate-load protocol (Straumann BLX, +5,000,000 VND vs delayed). Hospital-based delivery for full-mouth (no additional theatre fee).

Travel Services (Free for International Patients)

The All-In Cost for International Patients

Implant cost is only one part of the picture. Here is the realistic total for typical scenarios.

ScenarioTreatment CostFlights (round trip × 2)Hotel + Food (10 nights total)Total (USD)
Single Implant from Sydney~1,650 USD~2,000 AUD (~1,300 USD)~700 USD~3,650 USD
Single Implant from London~1,650 USD~1,500 GBP (~1,900 USD)~700 USD~4,250 USD
3-unit Implant Bridge from Auckland~3,900 USD~2,500 NZD (~1,500 USD)~1,000 USD~6,400 USD
All-on-4 from Sydney (one trip)~9,100 USD (Nobel Biocare)~2,000 AUD (~1,300 USD)~2,800 USD (4-week stay)~13,200 USD
Full Mouth All-on-4 from Sydney~18,200 USD (Nobel Biocare)~4,000 AUD (~2,600 USD, 2 trips)~4,000 USD (across 2 stays)~24,800 USD

For comparison: equivalent full-mouth All-on-4 in Sydney typically runs 65,000 to 85,000 AUD (~42,000 to 55,000 USD), more than twice the all-in Vietnam total.

How to Avoid Getting Overcharged

Three practical rules that protect you from the most common dental tourism mistakes. Picasso Dental follows all three by default.

1. Brand Name and Serial Number in Writing

Insist on knowing exactly which implant brand will be placed (Osstem, Neodent, Nobel Biocare, Straumann), and ask for the serial number after surgery. Reputable clinics provide this without hesitation. If they decline, the implant may be off-brand or grey-market.

2. Combo vs Fixture-Only Pricing

Some clinics quote a "fixture-only" price that excludes the abutment and crown. The combo price (fixture + abutment + crown) can be 50 to 80 percent higher. Always confirm what is included before agreeing to a quote.

3. CBCT, Not Just Panoramic X-ray

A panoramic 2D X-ray cannot accurately assess bone height, width and nerve proximity. Insist on a CBCT 3D scan before any treatment plan or quote. Picasso Dental includes CBCT in every implant consultation at no charge.

4. Beware "Too Cheap to Be True"

A genuine Nobel Biocare or Straumann fixture has a non-trivial cost to the clinic. If a clinic quotes a Nobel Biocare implant at 600 USD, the fixture is almost certainly not genuine, or the price will rise once you are in the chair.

5. Get the Treatment Plan Before You Travel

Request a written treatment plan with line-item pricing before booking flights. Reputable clinics provide this remotely from your CBCT or X-rays. Picasso Dental does this by default, before you book.

6. Verify the Warranty

Ask for written confirmation of the manufacturer warranty (10+ years for all major brands). Genuine fixtures have this; counterfeit or grey-market fixtures often do not. Picasso Dental provides written warranty documentation with every case file.

Insurance and Payment

How payment works for international patients, and how to maximise insurance reimbursement.

Foreign Insurance

We do not bill foreign insurers directly. Instead, we provide complete documentation, itemised invoices, CBCT, X-rays, treatment notes, implant serial numbers, that you submit for partial reimbursement. Most Australian, UK and US plans reimburse some portion when documentation is complete.

Maximising Reimbursement

Request your foreign insurance's "predetermination" letter before treatment, this confirms what they will reimburse. We provide treatment-plan documentation in the format your insurer requires. Many of our patients recover 30 to 60 percent of treatment cost from their home insurance.

Payment Methods

International credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). Bank transfer (USD or VND). We do not accept foreign cheques or cash for amounts above 50 million VND.

Staged Payments

For larger treatments (All-on-4, full mouth), payments are staged: deposit at consultation, balance of surgery cost on the day of placement, balance of crown/bridge cost at final fitting. No interest, no payment plans, no third-party finance.

Quote Validity

Written quotes are valid for 90 days. Pricing has been stable for the last 3 years; we do not surprise patients with mid-treatment price increases.

Refunds

If treatment cannot proceed (medical reason discovered at CBCT, patient changes mind before surgery), the deposit is fully refundable minus the consultation/CBCT fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a dental implant cost in Vietnam in 2026?

At Picasso Dental, single tooth dental implants in Vietnam start from 25,000,000 VND (~1,000 USD) with Osstem, 30,000,000 VND with Neodent, and 40,000,000 VND with Nobel Biocare or Straumann. The combo price includes the titanium fixture, the abutment and the final porcelain crown.

How much cheaper are implants in Vietnam vs Australia, USA or UK?

Single implants in Vietnam typically cost 60 to 75 percent less than equivalent treatment in Australia, the USA or the UK. A single Nobel Biocare implant in Sydney is around 6,500 to 8,500 AUD; the same brand at Picasso Dental in Vietnam is approximately 1,650 USD (40,000,000 VND).

Why are dental implants cheaper in Vietnam?

Lower costs in Vietnam reflect lower labour costs, lower clinic overheads, lower regulatory burden, and currency arbitrage, not lower materials or surgical standards. Picasso Dental uses identical Nobel Biocare, Straumann and Osstem fixtures used in Sydney, London and New York, with the same manufacturer warranties.

What does the implant price include?

At Picasso Dental, the combo implant price includes the titanium fixture, the abutment (connector), and the final porcelain crown. CBCT 3D scan, consultation and treatment planning are also included at no extra cost. Add-ons (extraction, bone graft, sinus lift) are quoted separately and only when CBCT shows they are needed.

How much does All-on-4 cost in Vietnam?

All-on-4 at Picasso Dental starts from 125,000,000 VND per arch with Osstem, 150,000,000 VND with Neodent, and 220,000,000 VND with Nobel Biocare or Straumann. Both arches: from 250,000,000 VND with Osstem to 440,000,000 VND with premium brands.

Are there hidden costs?

No. We provide a full written treatment plan with line-by-line pricing before any treatment begins. Add-ons are only quoted when CBCT clearly indicates they are needed (extraction, bone graft, sinus lift). The initial in-clinic consultation is 200,000 VND, waived if you proceed with treatment.

How much does it cost to fly to Vietnam for implants?

Round-trip flights to Da Nang or Hanoi from Sydney typically cost 800 to 1,400 AUD. From London, 700 to 1,100 GBP. From the US west coast, 1,000 to 1,500 USD. Mid-range hotels in Da Nang or Hoi An cost 35 to 80 USD per night. Full trip cost (flights + 7 nights hotel + meals) typically runs 2,500 to 4,500 USD for two people, less than one premium implant in Australia.

Do you accept dental insurance from abroad?

Picasso Dental does not bill foreign insurance directly, but we provide complete documentation (itemised invoices, CBCT, X-rays, treatment notes, implant serial numbers) that international patients submit to their insurance for partial reimbursement. Most Australian, UK and US plans reimburse some portion of overseas treatment when documentation is provided.

How do I avoid getting overcharged?

Three rules. (1) Always insist on the implant brand and serial number in writing. (2) Confirm whether the price is fixture-only or combo (fixture + abutment + crown), the difference is significant. (3) Insist on a CBCT scan, not just a panoramic X-ray, before any treatment plan or quote. Picasso Dental does all three by default.

Can I pay in instalments?

For larger treatments (All-on-4, full mouth), we accept staged payments aligned with treatment stages: deposit at consultation, balance of surgery cost on the day of placement, balance of crown/bridge cost at the time of final fitting. International patients pay by international card or bank transfer.

Are there any extra fees for international patients?

No. Implant prices are the same for international and domestic patients. Optional add-on services (airport pickup, hotel booking assistance, English-language case coordination) are provided at no additional charge as part of our international patient programme.

What if I need a follow-up after I get home?

We provide a complete case file: implant serial numbers, surgical notes, X-rays and CBCT. Any qualified dentist anywhere in the world can perform routine follow-ups, recall cleanings or address concerns using this documentation. We respond to questions over WhatsApp at any time.
